Ji'An,historically named Lu Ling or Jizhou during Yuan Dynasty and derived from the Chinese phase "Ji Tai Min An". Ji'an is located in central Jiangxi Province, situated in the middle section of Luoxiao mountains and the middle reaches of Ganjiang River.
To the East there are Le'an County(Wuzhou City), Ningdu and Xingguo County (Ganzhou City).To the West there are Chaling County, Yanling, and Guidong which are part of Hunan Province.To the South there are Ganxian, Shangyou County and Nankang District which are part of Ganzhou City.To the North there are Fengcheng county(Yichun city), Zhangshu city, Xinyu city and Pingxiang city.
Ji’an has 2 districts, 1 city and 10 counties which include Jizhou District Qingyuan District, Jinggangshan city, Ji'an County, Taihe County, Wan An County, Suichuan County, Yongxin County, Yongfeng County, Jishui County, Xiajiang County, Anfu County and Xingan County.
The majority of Ji’an people speak Gan dialect with a small minority uses Hakka.
Ji'an’s Jinggangshan is famous to the world as the revolutionary cradle of the People Republic of China and is also known as "江南望郡", " Golden Luling(金庐陵)", "吉州福地". "文章节义之邦".
